is this love? is this pain?
two sides to the same coin
the iridescence dazzles my eyes
like a feather from a bird of paradise
lovely and dark
the colors pull me under
captivated by their beauty
i swim through the darkness
arms outstretched
i follow the swirling blues and greens
at last, touching perfection
i feel it beneath my fingers
but this is no prize
as i slide across the greasy mass
the glistening black surface
stagnant and slick
i recoil
but never in time
black oily stains on my hands
where i thought love had been
